Quick answer: For Christmas from the UK, Tenerife and the other Canary Islands give mild sun on a flight of around four and a half hours. Dubai, Thailand, the Maldives, Mauritius and the Caribbean give proper beach weather on longer flights. Lapland suits families who want snow and Santa, and Vienna, Prague and New York suit a festive city break. Decide first whether you want warm or cold, then match the destination to your flight tolerance and budget.
This guide compares 14 Christmas holiday destinations for UK travellers, with flight times from London, typical December weather, who each place suits and what to check before you book. Christmas is the most expensive fortnight of the year, so the earlier you decide, the more choice you keep. You can browse live options on our holiday packages page, and our travel guides go deeper on most of the places below.

Check Entry Rules and Travel Advice Before You Choose
Dubai and the Gulf. The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) advised against all but essential travel to the UAE from 28 February 2026 and lifted that advice on 18 June 2026. The UAE page was updated again on 24 July 2026 with information on regional tensions. Read the live FCDO UAE travel advice on the day you book and again before you fly. Advice can change at short notice, and travelling against FCDO advice can invalidate travel insurance. The same applies if your route connects through a Gulf hub.
Europe (EES and ETIAS). The EU Entry/Exit System has been fully operational since 10 April 2026, so expect fingerprint and photo registration at the border on your first trip and allow extra time. ETIAS is not yet in operation and has no confirmed start date. See the ABTA guide to upcoming changes for travel to Europe and GOV.UK.
USA. UK citizens need an approved ESTA for air travel to the US. Apply only through the official US Customs and Border Protection site, esta.cbp.dhs.gov, and check the current fee and questions there.
Snow or Sunshine? How to Pick Your Christmas Holiday Style First
Quick picks
- Shortest flight with sun: Tenerife and the Canaries (about 4.5 hours)
- Reliable heat on a medium flight: Dubai (about 7 hours; check FCDO advice)
- Best long-haul value: Thailand’s Andaman coast
- Most luxurious beach: the Maldives
- Snow and Santa for young children: Lapland
- Cheapest festive city break: Prague
Before you look at a single hotel, settle one argument: do you want to be cold or warm on Christmas Day? Everything else follows from that. Couples usually split down the middle on this. Families with young children almost always want one of two things, either snow and Santa or a pool and a kids club.
Work through these five questions with whoever you are travelling with.
- How long will you fly? Four hours to Tenerife feels very different to fourteen hours to Phuket with a toddler. Under five hours keeps everyone civil.
- What is the real budget? Not the flight price. The total, including transfers, food, tips, excursions and the Christmas Day gala dinner that many resorts add as a compulsory supplement.
- How much do you care about weather certainty? Southern Spain in December can be lovely, or it can rain for three days. The Maldives in December is dependably hot.
- Do you need a traditional Christmas? Turkey dinner, carols, and a tree in the lobby. Most big resorts in Dubai, the Canaries and the Caribbean lay it on. Smaller boutique places in Asia may not.
- Are you back for New Year? Flying home on the 30th costs a fortune. Flying home on the 2nd or 3rd is often cheaper and gives you the better trip.
Travel tip: Departure date moves the price more than destination does. Flying out on 19 or 20 December usually costs noticeably more than flying on 22 or 23 December, and Christmas Day itself is often one of the cheapest days to depart. If your family can eat Christmas dinner on the 26th, you can save a meaningful amount. Prices vary by airline, airport and availability.
One more thing worth saying plainly. Christmas is the busiest and most expensive fortnight in the travel calendar, alongside August. Availability at the good hotels goes first, and it goes early. If you are reading this in August or September, you are in a strong position. If you are reading it in November, your options narrow fast and prices only move one way.
Thailand offers one of the best luxury experiences for travellers who want premium accommodation without paying the highest prices found in some island destinations. December is also one of the best months for Thai beaches, making it a fantastic choice for UK travellers looking for a warm festive escape. Best Festive Christmas Holiday Destinations: Markets, Lights and Snow
These are the classics, the places that feel like Christmas the moment you land. Cold, crisp, lit up and busy in the best way. Flight times from London are short for the European entries, which makes them realistic for a three or four night festive break rather than a full fortnight.
Vienna, Austria
Best for: Traditional Christmas markets and grand architecture.
Weather: Cold, usually around 1°C to 5°C in December, with a decent chance of frost and an occasional dusting of snow.
Why visit: Vienna does Christmas markets better than almost anywhere. The one in front of the Rathaus is the famous one, with the ice rink and the lit trees, but the smaller markets at Schönbrunn Palace and Spittelberg are the ones our clients tend to prefer. Less shoulder to shoulder, better food.
Top experiences: Mulled wine at the Rathausplatz market, a classical concert in a room built for the purpose, Sachertorte and coffee in an old cafe while it drizzles outside, Christmas shopping along Kärntner Straße.
Ideal traveller: Couples, culture lovers and anyone who wants Christmas to feel formal and beautiful rather than tropical.
Flight time from London is roughly two hours and twenty minutes, and the airport train gets you into the centre in about sixteen minutes. For 2026, the Rathausplatz market is listed as running from 13 November to 26 December and Schönbrunn to 6 January 2027. Many other markets close on 23 December, so the first three weeks of December give you far more choice than the 27th. Confirm dates on the Vienna tourist board site.
Prague, Czech Republic
Best for: An affordable, romantic European Christmas break.
Weather: Cold and often damp, typically 0°C to 4°C, with grey skies that somehow suit the place.
Why visit: Old Town Square in December is the postcard. A huge tree, wooden stalls, and the astronomical clock behind it all. Prague is also one of the cheapest capitals in Europe for food and drink, which matters when you are feeding a family.
Top experiences: Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square markets, walking Charles Bridge early before the crowds, trdelnik and hot wine, and a river cruise if the weather behaves.
Ideal traveller: Couples, groups of friends and first time festive city breakers on a sensible budget.
Prague’s markets generally run into early January, so it is one of the few European cities that still feels festive between Christmas and New Year. Confirm exact dates nearer the time.
Lapland, Finland
Best for: Families with children who still believe.
Weather: Properly cold. Rovaniemi in December often sits between minus 8°C and minus 15°C, sometimes colder.
Why visit: Nothing else competes for young children. Real snow, real reindeer, Santa in an actual log cabin rather than a shopping centre grotto. The daylight is short, around three or four hours of usable light, which sounds grim but actually creates a permanent blue and pink twilight that children find magical.
Top experiences: Meeting Santa at the Arctic Circle, husky sledding, reindeer sleigh rides, snowmobile safaris for older kids, and aurora hunting on a clear night.
Ideal traveller: Families with children aged roughly three to ten, and anyone who has always wanted to see the Northern Lights.
Be honest with yourself about cost here. Lapland is expensive, the thermal clothing hire adds up, and the good day trips sell out months ahead. A short three night trip usually delivers more value than a week, because the activities are intense and small children tire quickly in that cold.
New York, USA
Best for: Big city festive atmosphere and serious shopping.
Weather: Cold, roughly 1°C to 7°C, with wind that makes it feel colder than the number suggests.
Why visit: The Rockefeller Center tree, the window displays on Fifth Avenue, skating in Central Park, and the sheer noise and scale of it. New York in December is loud and crowded and completely worth it once in your life.
Top experiences: The Rockefeller Center tree and ice rink, Bryant Park Winter Village, a Broadway show, the Christmas Spectacular at Radio City, and Fifth Avenue window displays.
Ideal traveller: Couples, teenagers, shoppers and anyone who wants a Christmas break with energy rather than calm.
Two practical notes. British passport holders need an approved ESTA before travel, and the tree usually stays up into early January, so a trip in that quieter week after Christmas still gets you the whole experience with fewer crowds. If a US trip appeals but New York prices put you off, our guide to Las Vegas holidays from the UK covers a warmer American alternative, and the full USA holiday packages page lists what we can build for you.

London, UK
Best for: A festive break with no flights, no passports and no faff.
Weather: Mild and usually wet, around 4°C to 9°C.
Why visit: If half your party cannot travel or you are working right up to the 23rd, London does the job. Oxford Street lights, Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park, ice rinks at Somerset House and the Natural History Museum, and Kew Gardens after dark, which is genuinely beautiful.
Top experiences: Hyde Park Winter Wonderland, Christmas lights on Regent Street and Carnaby Street, Christmas at Kew, a pantomime, and borough markets for the food.
Ideal traveller: Families on a tight budget, multigenerational groups and anyone who wants festive without the airport.
Singapore, the Underrated Festive City
Best for: Warm weather with proper Christmas decorations.
Weather: Hot and humid, around 30°C, with short heavy showers most days in December.
Why visit: Orchard Road takes its Christmas lights very seriously, and Gardens by the Bay puts on a festive display that rivals anything in Europe. You get Christmas atmosphere and a tan at the same time, which is a rare combination.
Top experiences: The Christmas on A Great Street light-up along Orchard Road, Christmas Wonderland at Gardens by the Bay, hawker centre food, a stopover before continuing to Thailand or Bali.
Ideal traveller: Couples and families who want warmth without giving up the festive look.
We have written a full breakdown of the events, dates and best hotels in our guide to Christmas in Singapore, and if you are staying through to the 31st, the New Year celebration in Singapore guide covers the Marina Bay fireworks and where to watch them from.
Best Warm Christmas Holiday Destinations for Winter Sun
This is where most of our December bookings actually go. A large share of UK travellers searching for Christmas holiday destinations are not looking for snow at all. They want heat, a pool, and a break from a British winter that starts getting dark at four in the afternoon. Here are the warm options that consistently work, ranked loosely by how easy they are to reach.
Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Best for: Reliable winter sunshine with hotels, food and attractions in one place, on a seven-hour flight.
Weather: Around 25°C to 27°C in the day in late December, cooling to about 16°C at night. Rain is rare. This is Dubai at its most pleasant.
Why visit: December is the best month of the year to be in Dubai. The summer heat has gone, and the hotels lay on full Christmas programmes with trees, carol singers and turkey lunches. Flight time from London is roughly seven hours, which is long enough to feel like a proper trip but short enough that you land the same day.
Top experiences: Christmas brunch at a beach resort, the Burj Khalifa observation deck, a desert safari with dinner under the stars, Global Village, the Dubai Fountain show, and the shopping if that is your thing.
Ideal traveller: Families, couples and anyone who wants heat without a fourteen hour flight.
Dubai works for many different groups at once: grandparents get comfort, teenagers get waterparks and shopping, and small children get beaches. Read the FCDO advice box near the top of this page before you book. Grandparents get comfort, teenagers get waterparks and shopping, small children get beaches. Our full Dubai holidays guide for UK travellers covers the areas, hotels and package options in detail, and you can see the current line up on our UAE holiday packages page.
Maldives
Best for: A quiet, luxurious, adults focused Christmas on the water.
Weather: Hot and dry, around 30°C, with December falling in the good season. Sea temperature sits near 28°C.
Why visit: You fly into Male, get on a speedboat or seaplane, and then do very little for a week. Resorts occupy their own islands, so once you are there, that island is your holiday. Christmas Day at a Maldivian resort usually means a decorated palm tree, a gala dinner on the sand and a beach barbecue rather than anything traditional.
Top experiences: Snorkelling straight off the villa steps, a sunset dolphin cruise, a private beach dinner, a spa over the lagoon, and diving on the house reef.
Ideal traveller: Honeymooners, couples celebrating something, and families with the budget for a villa with a pool.
- Two honest warnings:
- Christmas and New Year carry the steepest supplements of the year in the Maldives, and many resorts add a compulsory gala dinner charge per person on the 24th, the 25th and the 31st.
- Seaplane transfers only run in daylight, so a late arrival into Male can mean an unplanned night in an airport hotel. We plan around both. Read our Maldives trip cost guide before you set your budget, and browse the Maldives holiday packages we currently run from the UK.
Thailand
Best for: Long haul warmth at a price that still makes sense.
Weather: December is peak dry season on the Andaman coast. Phuket and Krabi sit around 31°C in the day with low rainfall and calm seas.
Why visit: Thailand gives you five star quality for three star money. A resort that would cost a fortune in the Caribbean is achievable in Khao Lak or Phuket, and you get culture, food and island hopping on top of the beach. The tourist areas decorate heavily for Christmas even though it is not a local holiday.
Top experiences: Island hopping around Phi Phi and James Bond Island, a Thai cooking class, Old Phuket Town on a Sunday, elephant sanctuaries that are genuinely ethical, and beach barbecues on Christmas night.
Ideal traveller: Couples, families with older children, and anyone who wants two weeks rather than one.
Thailand rewards a longer stay because of the flight time, usually twelve to fifteen hours with one stop. If you are only getting ten days off, Dubai is the better use of them. If you have the full fortnight, Thailand delivers more holiday per pound than almost anywhere. Start with our Thailand trip cost guide for realistic budgets, then look at the Thailand tour packages we run from UK airports.

Tenerife and the Canary Islands
Best for: Short flights, mild sunshine and the best value winter sun in reach of the UK.
Weather: Around 21°C to 23°C in the day in Tenerife and cooler in the evenings. The south of the island stays drier than the north.
Why visit: Roughly four and a half hours from London and no jet lag. The Canaries are the pragmatic choice, and there is no shame in that. Tenerife, Lanzarote, Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura all run big Christmas and Three Kings celebrations, and the resorts are set up for British families down to the roast dinner.
Top experiences: Mount Teide, whale and dolphin watching, Siam Park in Tenerife, the Three Kings parades on the 5th of January, quiet black sand beaches in the north.
Ideal traveller: Families with young children, older travellers, and anyone who wants warmth without a long haul budget.
Set expectations correctly on temperature. The Canaries in December are mild, not tropical. You will sunbathe comfortably and swim in a heated pool, but the sea is bracing and evenings need a jumper. If that is fine, it is outstanding value. Have a look at our Spain holiday packages for what we can put together.
Mauritius
Best for: A beach Christmas with more to do than lie down.
Weather: Hot and humid, around 29°C to 30°C. December sits in the island summer, which also means it is inside the cyclone season that runs from November to April.
Why visit: Mauritius gives you Indian Ocean beaches plus mountains, hiking, markets, Creole food and golf. It suits people who love the idea of the Maldives but would go stir crazy on a single island for ten days. Christmas is widely celebrated locally, so the atmosphere is real rather than imported for tourists.
Top experiences: Chamarel and the Seven Coloured Earths, Black River Gorges, a catamaran to Ile aux Cerfs, the Port Louis central market, and snorkelling at Blue Bay.
Ideal traveller: Couples, honeymooners and families who want a beach base with day trips.
The cyclone point deserves a straight answer rather than a dodge. Serious cyclones in December are uncommon but not impossible, and the sensible protection is a package with proper cover rather than avoiding the island. Our Mauritius holiday packages page includes twin centre options with Dubai, which is a popular way to break the journey.
The Caribbean
Best for: A classic all-inclusive beach Christmas with rum and steel drums.
Weather: Around 28°C to 30°C, and December falls in the dry season after the hurricane season ends in November.
Why visit: Barbados, Antigua, Jamaica and St Lucia all do Christmas properly, and the all-inclusive model takes the arithmetic out of a peak-season holiday. You pay once and stop thinking about it. Flight time is roughly eight to nine hours, and you gain hours on the way out.
Top experiences: Beach hopping, catamaran cruises, rum distillery tours, local Christmas markets and church services, snorkelling and diving.
Ideal traveller: Couples, groups and families who want everything included in one price.
It is not the cheapest option on this list, but the all-inclusive structure makes it one of the easiest to budget for. See our Caribbean holiday packages for current departures.

Best Family Christmas Holiday Destinations
Family trips at Christmas live or die on two details, flight length and what there is for children to do at four in the afternoon. The best family Christmas holiday destinations solve both. Here is what works, split by the age of your children, because a six year old and a fifteen year old want completely different holidays.
Lapland for Younger Children
If your children are between roughly three and ten, nothing else comes close. Meeting Santa at the Arctic Circle, husky rides, snowmobile trips and toboggan runs. The catch is cost and stamina. Small children in minus twelve degrees have a limited operating window, so plan two activities a day and not more. Three or four nights is usually the sweet spot.
Disneyland Paris for Mixed Ages
Disneyland Paris in December is heavily decorated, the parade is festive, and you can get there by train without setting foot in an airport. It works for a wide age range, from toddlers to teenagers who claim they are too old for it and then queue for every ride. Book character dining early because slots go months ahead over Christmas week.
Tenerife for a Warm, Easy Family Week
Four and a half hours, no jet lag, warm afternoons and family resorts that understand British holidaymakers. Siam Park keeps older children busy for a full day, Mount Teide gives you one proper excursion, and the rest of the week can be as lazy as you like. For families with a toddler and a tight budget, this is the sensible pick nine times out of ten.
Dubai for Teenagers and Multigenerational Groups
Dubai is the one that keeps everybody happy at once. Waterparks and beach clubs for teenagers, calm resorts and easy transfers for grandparents, and a hotel Christmas Day programme that means nobody has to cook. Aquaventure and Wild Wadi handle a full day each. Evening desert safaris work well for older children and are usually too long for the under fives.
Turkey for Value Family Sunshine
Turkey is quieter in December. Coastal resorts are mild, around 16°C to 18°C, but all-inclusive value is strong. If your trip stretches into 31 December, our Istanbul New Year guide covers the countdown areas, cruises and hotel prices for that specific week. It suits families who care more about a good hotel and a low bill than about swimming in the sea. Our Turkey holiday packages show what that looks like in practice.
Family checklist before you book
- Check the transfer time from the airport to the hotel, not just the flight time. A ninety minute coach transfer with a tired four year old undoes a short flight.
- Confirm the kids club is open over Christmas week. Some close on the 24th and 25th.
- Ask whether the Christmas gala dinner is compulsory and whether children are charged.
- Check the room configuration properly. Interconnecting rooms and family suites sell out first at Christmas.
- Passport rules differ by country. For Schengen countries, your passport must have been issued within the last 10 years and have at least three months left after the day you leave. The UAE asks for at least six months from your arrival date. Check your destination’s entry requirements on GOV.UK, and check children’s passports separately.
If you want a hand narrowing it down for your family specifically, our advisors do this all day. You can see the family friendly options on our Tour pages, or send us your dates and we will come back with two or three options that fit.

Affordable Christmas Holiday Destinations From the UK
Cheap and Christmas do not usually appear in the same sentence, but the gap between a well planned trip and a badly planned one is wide enough to matter. These destinations keep costs down without feeling like a compromise.
- Spain and the Canary Islands. Short flights, competitive hotel rates outside the very top resorts, and the Three Kings celebrations on the 5th and 6th of January if you can travel late.
- Portugal. The Algarve is quiet and mild in December, and Madeira has a strong festive season with lights across Funchal and a big New Year fireworks display.
- Turkey. Consistently the best all inclusive value in reach of the UK. Istanbul in winter is a genuinely good city break, and the exchange rate tends to work in a British traveller’s favour.
- Hungary. Budapest markets are among the best in Europe and food and drink prices are noticeably lower than in Vienna, which is a two and a half hour train ride away if you want both.
- Czech Republic. Prague again. Cheap food, cheap beer, markets that run past New Year and flights from most UK regional airports.
- Vietnam. The long haul budget option. Warm in the south, dirt cheap on the ground, and increasingly popular with British travellers who have already done Thailand. Our Vietnam trip cost guide breaks down what a fortnight actually costs.
For travellers wanting something different from traditional European Christmas markets, Christmas in Vietnam combines warm weather, culture and unforgettable experiences.

Seven Ways to Cut the Cost of a Christmas Holiday
- Move your dates. Departing on the 23rd, 24th or 25th is usually cheaper than the 19th or 20th.
- Return after New Year. The 30th and 31st are the most expensive return dates of the month.
- Check regional airports. Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow and Edinburgh sometimes beat London on long haul once you add the cost of getting to Heathrow.
- Fly one stop. A connection through Doha, Dubai or Istanbul is often meaningfully cheaper than nonstop.
- Book the package rather than the parts. Bundled flight and hotel rates at peak season are usually lower than the same components bought separately.
- Go all inclusive if you are travelling with children. Peak season restaurant bills for a family of four add up faster than most people expect.
- Book early. This is the boring one, and it is the one that saves the most.
You can see current pricing across every destination on our tours and deals page, which is updated as new December departures are released.
How Much Do Christmas Holidays Cost From the UK?
Anyone quoting a single figure is guessing. What a Christmas trip costs depends on your departure airport, how far ahead you book, hotel standard, and whether your dates sit on the peak days. What follows is a realistic way to think about the bands rather than a price list. Prices vary depending on departure dates, availability and accommodation choices.
| Type of Trip | Typical Destinations | Length | What Drives the Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Budget festive break | Prague, Budapest, Krakow | 3 to 5 nights | Flight timing and how central the hotel is |
| Mid range winter sun | Tenerife, Turkey, Dubai | 7 to 10 nights | Board basis and hotel star rating |
| Long haul value | Thailand, Vietnam, Sri Lanka | 12 to 16 nights | Airline choice and how early you book flights |
| Family adventure | Lapland, Disneyland Paris | 3 to 5 nights | Activities, which are priced separately and add up fast |
| Luxury escape | Maldives, Mauritius, Caribbean | 7 to 14 nights | Villa category, transfer type and compulsory gala dinners |
Four things push a Christmas price up more than anything else. Peak departure dates in the run up to the 24th. Nonstop flights instead of one stop. Seaplane or private transfers instead of shared ones. And the festive supplements that resorts add on the 24th, 25th and 31st, which are frequently compulsory and rarely mentioned in the headline price.
For destination specific numbers rather than bands, our cost guides go into proper detail: the Maldives trip cost guide, the Thailand trip cost guide and the Vietnam trip cost guide all break down flights, hotels, food and extras separately.
Tips for Booking Your Christmas Holiday Early
The most popular Christmas holiday destinations work on a different timetable to the rest of the year. Everyone wants the same fortnight, aircraft seats are finite, and the best family rooms in the best resorts get held by repeat guests who rebooked last December before they flew home.
When to Book
For short haul Europe, four to six months out is comfortable. For long haul at Christmas, six to nine months is better, and for the Maldives over New Year the good villas are often gone by summer. If it is already November and you have not booked, you can still travel, but be flexible on destination and dates rather than on hotel quality.
Check Passports and Entry Rules Now
This is the most common and most avoidable problem we see. Passport rules differ by country. For Schengen countries your passport must be under 10 years old with at least three months left after you leave. The UAE asks for six months from arrival. Check each destination on GOV.UK, and children’s passports expire faster than adults remember. The USA needs an approved ESTA, and some countries require visas or online entry forms that take time to process. Check the official UK travel advice for your destination before you book anything, and again a few weeks before you fly.
Read What Is Actually Included
At Christmas, all inclusive does not always mean all inclusive. Some resorts exclude the gala dinners, charge separately for the New Year’s Eve party, or restrict the drinks package on those two nights. Ask for the festive supplements in writing before you pay the deposit.
Take Insurance Out on the Day You Book
Not the week before you fly. Cover starts working from the moment you buy it, which is what protects your deposit if somebody falls ill in November.
Build In a Buffer Day
If you must be home for a family event on the 27th, do not book a flight landing on the 27th. Winter weather disrupts flights across Europe every December. One buffer day converts a potential disaster into a mild inconvenience.
Choosing Your Christmas Trip for 2026
Choose festive Europe if you want markets, lights and a short flight: Vienna for tradition, Prague for value. Choose the Canaries for the simplest winter sun. Choose Thailand or the Caribbean for proper heat, the Maldives or Mauritius for a luxury beach, and Lapland for children who still believe. Whichever you pick, decide early and check passports and travel advice today, because Christmas availability does not improve as the year goes on.
Ready to compare options? Send us your dates, departure airport and budget, and we will come back with a short list that fits. Enquire now for a personalised quote.
Frequently Asked Questions About Christmas Holidays
Central and Eastern Europe are usually cheapest. Prague, Budapest and Krakow combine short flights with low food and drink costs, so a three or four night festive break stays affordable. For winter sun on a budget, Turkey and mainland Spain are the strongest options. Prices vary depending on departure dates, availability and accommodation choices.
For heat, the Maldives and Thailand are hottest at around 30C to 31C, with low December rainfall. Mauritius and the Caribbean are similar but slightly more humid. Dubai sits around 26C, which many British travellers prefer because evenings stay comfortable. The Canary Islands offer roughly 22C on a short flight.
Yes, and most large resorts in Dubai, the Canaries, the Caribbean and the Indian Ocean run full Christmas Day programmes with festive meals, decorations and entertainment. Confirm before booking, since smaller boutique hotels in Asia may not mark the day at all. Flights operate on the 25th and are often the cheapest departures of the month.
The Maldives leads for couples wanting privacy and an overwater villa. Mauritius suits couples who want beaches plus something to explore. For a cold weather romance, Vienna and Prague are hard to beat, and Lapland works well for couples chasing the Northern Lights without children in tow.
Four to six months ahead for European city breaks, and six to nine months for long haul destinations such as the Maldives, Thailand or the Caribbean. Lapland and Disneyland Paris often need even earlier booking because activities and family rooms sell out first. Booking late usually means paying more for less choice.
Often, but not always. Compare a package with the separate flight and hotel prices for your dates. The other difference is protection: a flight-inclusive package can carry financial protection that separate bookings may not. Ask the provider what applies to your booking.
It varies. The US needs an approved ESTA. Schengen countries currently need no authorisation beyond your passport, although EES checks apply and ETIAS is not yet in operation. Entry rules for the UAE, Thailand, the Maldives and Mauritius differ, so check each on GOV.UK before booking.
