Cyprus Holidays — Sunshine, Beaches & Ancient History, All in One Island

Cyprus quietly punches above its weight. Why Cyprus Works So Well for UK Travellers

Cyprus is one of the few Mediterranean islands where the sunshine actually does what the brochures claim. The “summer” season here stretches from April into late October, with over 70 Blue Flag beaches scattered across the coast — more per kilometre of shoreline than almost anywhere else in the world.

It also wraps 10,000 years of history into a surprisingly small island: Greek temples, Roman mosaics, Crusader castles, and Byzantine churches all sit within an hour or two of each other. Add in left-hand driving, English everywhere you’d actually need it, direct flights with EasyJet, Jet2, BA and Ryanair, and prices that still feel reasonable next to Greece or Italy in peak season — and it’s easy to see why Cyprus is such a popular choice for British travellers.

Top Things to Do in Cyprus

Paphos — A natural base for first-timers. The UNESCO-listed Archaeological Park has Roman mosaics in remarkably good condition, and the Tombs of the Kings sit just up the road. Coral Bay’s golden sand is 15 minutes north.

Ayia Napa & Protaras — The east coast is where Cyprus turns up the volume. Nissi Beach gets the headlines, but Fig Tree Bay in Protaras is calmer and arguably prettier. Cape Greco nearby is brilliant for snorkelling and sea caves.

Limassol — Cyprus’s most cosmopolitan city, with a working old town, a smart marina, a medieval castle, and arguably the best food on the island.

Nicosia — Walk inside the Venetian walls, cross into Northern Cyprus on foot at Ledra Street, and you’ve effectively been to two countries in one afternoon.

Troodos Mountains — Pine forests, painted Byzantine churches, mountain villages, and Commandaria wineries (the world’s oldest named wine, going back over 5,000 years). A completely different side of the island that most beach visitors never see.

Akamas Peninsula — Cyprus at its wildest. Sea turtles nest here, and the coastal hiking is genuinely good.

Kyrenia (Northern Cyprus) — A picturesque harbour town with an Ottoman castle, fresh seafood, and noticeably lower prices than the south.

Best Time to Visit Cyprus

  • April to June — our pick. Warm sea, mild weather, fewer crowds, better prices.
  • September to October — still beach weather, calmer than peak season.
  • July and August — full-on summer. Hot, busy, ideal for all-inclusive resort holidays.
  • November to March — quietest and cheapest. Good for sightseeing, the Troodos in snow, or a winter culture break.

Cyprus Holidays — FAQs

1. How long is a flight from the UK to Cyprus?

Around 4 to 4½ hours direct, with regular flights into Larnaca and Paphos from London, Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow and Edinburgh.

2. Is Cyprus a good all-inclusive destination?

One of the best in the Mediterranean. The all-inclusive market is well-developed in Ayia Napa, Protaras and Paphos, and the quality-to-price ratio is consistently strong.

3. Do UK travellers need a visa for Cyprus?

No. UK passport holders can visit visa-free for up to 90 days within any 180-day period, provided your passport is valid for the duration of your stay.

4. Can you visit both sides of Cyprus on one trip?

Yes. Crossing into Northern Cyprus is straightforward at several checkpoints, including the pedestrian crossing on Ledra Street in Nicosia — just bring your passport.
